About the Artist | Erik Linton

Erik Linton of Linton Art creates hand-pulled woodcut prints that transform the growth rings of naturally fallen trees into compelling works of contemporary art. Working directly from the character of the wood, his practice celebrates the intricate patterns, fractures, and individual histories preserved within each cross-section.

Through this distinctive approach to printmaking, the natural passage of time becomes visible, creating artworks that unite organic form, traditional craftsmanship, and an enduring sense of place.

Presented as part of the L’Élément de Joie Designer-in-Residence collection.

The Design Story

A hand-pulled set of three tree ring prints, rendered in black textured ink on archival paper.

Three trees. Three distinct histories. One extraordinary study in the beauty of time.

The Arden Triptych brings together the natural records of cedar, mulberry, and pine in a composition that is at once botanical, graphic, and deeply expressive. Created by artist Erik Linton using wood cross-sections as the foundation for his handmade prints, each piece captures a unique pattern of growth: the steady expansion of concentric rings, the interruption of natural fissures, and the subtle irregularities that distinguish one tree from another.

The collection includes cedar sourced from Alaska, mulberry, and pine from Utah. Their individual characteristics become especially compelling when viewed together. One impression reveals delicate, closely gathered rings interrupted by a dramatic fracture. Another displays bold divisions and intricate circular movement. The third introduces an almost sculptural silhouette, its asymmetrical contours and densely layered lines creating a powerful contrast to the more circular forms beside it.

Rendered in textured black ink on substantial white archival paper, the three compositions balance the expressive qualities of traditional woodcut printing with the visual restraint of contemporary art. The monochromatic palette gives the work an architectural clarity, allowing the natural details to command attention without competing with the surrounding interior.

Signed by Erik Linton, The Arden Triptych celebrates the passage of time through three individual forms that become even more compelling in conversation with one another.

Please Note: Artwork is sold as a set of three unframed prints. Frames shown in product and lifestyle images are for styling and presentation purposes only and are not included with purchase.

Material Character

The Nature of the Piece

The Arden Triptych possesses a distinctive material quality rooted in the interaction between substantial archival paper, textured ink, and the irregular surfaces of the original wood cross-sections. Its character comes not from applied ornament, but from the extraordinary detail revealed through the printing process.

These variations are central to the work's visual richness. Some areas reveal tightly organized concentric patterns, while others dissolve into more expressive textures. The natural fissures create strong directional elements, breaking the circular rhythm and introducing the unexpected geometry that makes each print visually distinctive.

Because the prints are produced by hand, the ink may exhibit subtle variations inherent to the process. These characteristics give the artwork a tactile, individually crafted presence rather than the perfectly uniform finish of a mass-produced graphic.

Additional Information

No two homes come together in quite the same way—and neither do the pieces chosen for them. Our collection brings together furnishings and objects from a variety of makers and manufacturers, each with its own production schedules, shipping methods, and delivery options.

We consider those differences part of the process of sourcing pieces with character. Whether an item arrives by parcel within days, travels by freight, or is prepared especially for your order, our focus remains the same: selecting pieces worth bringing into your home and making the journey from their source to your space as thoughtful as possible.

A well-considered home isn't assembled all at once. It takes shape piece by piece, through objects chosen not simply to fill a space, but to make that space feel like home.
