About the Artist | Erik Linton

Erik Linton of Linton Art creates hand-pulled woodcut prints that transform the growth rings of naturally fallen trees into compelling works of contemporary art. Working directly from the character of the wood, his practice celebrates the intricate patterns, fractures, and individual histories preserved within each cross-section.

Through this distinctive approach to printmaking, the natural passage of time becomes visible, creating artworks that unite organic form, traditional craftsmanship, and an enduring sense of place.

Presented as part of the L’Élément de Joie Designer-in-Residence collection.

The Design Story

An artist-signed, hand-pulled original print by Erik Linton of Linton Art

Designer-in-Residence | Erik Linton — Linton Art

Three hundred and seventy-two years of growth, preserved in a single remarkable impression. The Auréline Wall Art captures the intricate history of a naturally fallen Sitka spruce discovered along the Oregon coast, transformed by artist Erik Linton into an extraordinary hand-pulled woodcut print. Every concentric ring, weathered fracture, and irregular marking reveals a different passage of time, creating a composition shaped entirely by nature rather than artistic invention.

At an impressive 52 by 60 inches, Auréline possesses an almost architectural presence. Its sweeping circular form and densely layered black ink create a striking visual contrast against the surrounding paper, balancing organic complexity with graphic restraint. Equally compelling in a contemporary gallery-inspired interior or a richly layered living space, the artwork invites quiet contemplation of age, resilience, and the beauty of natural imperfection.

More than a decorative statement, Auréline is a tangible record of centuries, interpreted through the meticulous practice of traditional printmaking.

  • Professional framing is recommended. Conservation-quality mounting materials and UV-protective glazing can help preserve the print's appearance over time.
  • Framed artwork shown for styling inspiration. Print is sold unframed; frame and hanging hardware are not included.

Material Character

The Nature of the Piece

Auréline is defined by the tactile relationship between archival paper, deeply textured ink, and the naturally occurring geometry of aged wood. The print's densely layered concentric rings shift between delicate, closely spaced lines and broad passages of weathered black, capturing the complex surface character of the original Sitka spruce cross-section. Fine fractures interrupt the circular rhythm, introducing unexpected movement and emphasizing the individuality of the tree from which the impression was taken.

The heavyweight archival paper provides a quiet, luminous foundation, allowing variations in ink density, texture, and surface detail to remain visually distinct. Soft gray passages emerge between deeper charcoal markings, creating a remarkable sense of depth without relying on color.

Rather than concealing irregularity, the printing process celebrates it. Each visible fissure, interruption, and variation contributes to a composition that feels both ancient and unexpectedly contemporary—an expressive union of natural history, material authenticity, and the enduring craft of printmaking.

Additional Information

No two homes come together in quite the same way—and neither do the pieces chosen for them. Our collection brings together furnishings and objects from a variety of makers and manufacturers, each with its own production schedules, shipping methods, and delivery options.

We consider those differences part of the process of sourcing pieces with character. Whether an item arrives by parcel within days, travels by freight, or is prepared especially for your order, our focus remains the same: selecting pieces worth bringing into your home and making the journey from their source to your space as thoughtful as possible.

A well-considered home isn't assembled all at once. It takes shape piece by piece, through objects chosen not simply to fill a space, but to make that space feel like home.
