The Solange Wallpaper | Slate Watercolor Bloom

The Design Story

Oversized watercolor florals in smoky slate blue and deep indigo, illuminated by warm golden centers.

Solange approaches the floral motif with the freedom and expressive movement of a large-scale watercolor painting. Generous blossoms unfold across a luminous white ground, their petals rendered in shifting washes of slate blue, smoky gray, and deep indigo. Fine, irregular brushstrokes trace the contours of each flower, while darker concentrations of pigment gather along the edges and folds, lending the petals an almost sculptural quality. Warm golden centers introduce a deliberate point of contrast, drawing the eye into each bloom before allowing it to travel outward through the overlapping layers of color. The composition feels spontaneous rather than arranged, with flowers turning in different directions and occupying the surface in a loose, organic rhythm. Despite the abundance of detail, the surrounding white space keeps the pattern open and visually balanced.

Installed across an entire wall, Solange transforms the familiar language of botanical wallpaper into something distinctly architectural. Its oversized blossoms establish a confident visual scale, while the watercolor treatment softens their presence and prevents the composition from becoming overly formal. The interplay of dark and light gives the wall depth without sacrificing brightness, making the pattern especially compelling in contemporary interiors where furniture and architectural elements have strong, uncomplicated silhouettes. Warm walnut, cognac leather, charcoal upholstery, and brushed brass complement the cooler blue palette, while ivory furnishings and pale stone allow the floral artwork to remain the room's principal expression. Equally captivating in a living room, bedroom, or dining space, Solange demonstrates that a floral wallcovering can be dramatic, painterly, and thoroughly modern without surrendering its organic character.

Material Character

The Nature of the Piece

Solange is digitally printed on a traditional non-woven substrate, allowing the intricate character of its watercolor artwork to be reproduced with clarity across the wallcovering. A subtle surface sheen introduces a gentle interaction with light, while the canvas-texture appearance complements the painterly quality of the floral composition. The surface evokes the visual character of artwork on a textured ground without suggesting that the wallcovering is made from actual artist's canvas. High-resolution printing preserves the delicate transitions between translucent-looking washes, darker pigment concentrations, and fine linear details, maintaining the expressive individuality of each blossom.

The traditional paste-the-wall construction provides a practical foundation for installing the large-scale design, with 19-inch-wide panels available in heights suited to different wall dimensions. The non-woven material is intended to be applied with wallpaper paste, allowing the floral composition to extend across adjoining panels while retaining its painterly character. Its compatibility with smooth and lightly textured walls offers flexibility for residential interiors, although heavier wall textures should be tested before installation. Together, the material and printing approach support a wallcovering that combines the visual softness of watercolor with the defined presence of an architectural surface.

No two homes come together in quite the same way—and neither do the pieces chosen for them. Our collection brings together furnishings and objects from a variety of makers and manufacturers, each with its own production schedules, shipping methods, and delivery options.

We consider those differences part of the process of sourcing pieces with character. Whether an item arrives by parcel within days, travels by freight, or is prepared especially for your order, our focus remains the same: selecting pieces worth bringing into your home and making the journey from their source to your space as thoughtful as possible.

A well-considered home isn't assembled all at once. It takes shape piece by piece, through objects chosen not simply to fill a space, but to make that space feel like home.
