The Design Story

Rust Velvet & Sculpted Teardrop Arms

A Study in Curves and Rust

The Véronique accent chair finds its character in the relationship between an upright back and generously rolled arms. Their teardrop profiles give the silhouette a distinctive outward sweep, introducing rounded volume on either side of the seat. Rust-orange velvet brings these gestures into focus, lending warmth to a composition that balances an expressive outline with a clear, orderly center.

The arms are more than a decorative flourish: visually, they establish the rhythm of the piece. Broad curves narrow toward the floor, while the openings between the arms and back interrupt the upholstered mass. This interplay of volume and negative space keeps the chair from reading as a single solid block. The comparatively restrained back provides a counterpoint, allowing the side profiles to remain the defining gesture.

Velvet gives the rust palette depth rather than a flat field of color. Across the upholstery, lighter and darker tones articulate the rounded edges and distinguish the seat from its surrounding forms. The continuity of color draws the different elements together, while their changing contours provide the contrast. The result is a chair whose interest comes from the way one material follows a carefully differentiated silhouette, rather than from an accumulation of decorative details.

Within an interior, Véronique can introduce warmth without requiring the rest of the room to retreat into neutrals. Against deep teal or ink-blue walls, its orange tones create a deliberate color relationship; beside pale timber, textured rugs, and spare-lined tables, its curves become more pronounced. Give the chair a little breathing room so its open sides remain visible, allowing it to participate in the room as both seating and a considered composition of shapes.

Material Character

The Nature of the Piece

Véronique's visual character begins with its rust-orange velvet upholstery. The softly reflective surface gives depth to the saturated color, allowing subtle changes in light to emphasize the chair's generous curves and rounded contours.

The upholstery extends across the broad rolled arms, gently inclined back, cushioned seat, and sculpted side supports, creating a unified material composition. This continuity allows the chair's silhouette to take precedence over contrasting trim or exposed structural elements.

Particularly distinctive are the teardrop-shaped details along the outer arms, which introduce a precise, decorative line within an otherwise softly rounded form. Combined with the arched openings beneath the seat, these details give Véronique a sense of movement and dimension.

The result is a piece defined by expressive upholstery, substantial proportions, and a carefully balanced relationship between softness and structure.

Additional Information

No two homes come together in quite the same way—and neither do the pieces chosen for them. Our collection brings together furnishings and objects from a variety of makers and manufacturers, each with its own production schedules, shipping methods, and delivery options.

We consider those differences part of the process of sourcing pieces with character. Whether an item arrives by parcel within days, travels by freight, or is prepared especially for your order, our focus remains the same: selecting pieces worth bringing into your home and making the journey from their source to your space as thoughtful as possible.

A well-considered home isn't assembled all at once. It takes shape piece by piece, through objects chosen not simply to fill a space, but to make that space feel like home.
