The Design Story

Iridescent shell shifts through ivory, denim blue, gray, and tan across a compact lacquered silhouette.

The Aurore Side Table treats surface as architecture, using a compact, straight-sided form to showcase the natural movement of lacquered shell. Tan, ivory, gray, denim, and ice-blue tones move across the exterior in a cool, layered composition, while the shell's iridescence allows the color to shift subtly as daylight travels through the room. Rather than relying on applied ornament, Aurore builds its visual interest from the material itself: variation, reflection, and tonal depth become the decoration.

At 19 inches high and 13 inches square, the table has the proportions of an easy chair-side companion without disappearing into the room. Its small footprint makes it especially useful beside a sofa or lounge chair where a larger occasional table would feel heavy, yet the lacquered shell gives the piece enough presence to stand on its own. The result is a compact accent that introduces color and luminosity without sacrificing the disciplined geometry that keeps the silhouette refined.

Material Character

The Nature of the Piece

Shell is the defining material of Aurore, bringing natural iridescence and subtle tonal variation to every surface. The supplier identifies the shell as a natural material, so shifts in color and reflective character are part of the piece rather than defects to be visually corrected. The palette moves through tan, ivory, gray, denim, and ice blue, creating a surface that can appear quieter or more saturated depending on the direction and intensity of the light.

A lacquered finish draws those variations forward, adding a polished layer that sharpens reflection and gives the shell a smoother, more architectural presentation. Beneath the luminous surface, the wood-and-shell construction provides the table with its compact, substantial form. The contrast between natural shell variation and the controlled lacquered exterior is what gives Aurore its character: luminous without becoming delicate, colorful without feeling ornamental.

Additional Information

No two homes come together in quite the same way—and neither do the pieces chosen for them. Our collection brings together furnishings and objects from a variety of makers and manufacturers, each with its own production schedules, shipping methods, and delivery options.

We consider those differences part of the process of sourcing pieces with character. Whether an item arrives by parcel within days, travels by freight, or is prepared especially for your order, our focus remains the same: selecting pieces worth bringing into your home and making the journey from their source to your space as thoughtful as possible.

A well-considered home isn't assembled all at once. It takes shape piece by piece, through objects chosen not simply to fill a space, but to make that space feel like home.
