The Design Story

Two planes of marble, two measured heights, and one composition designed to be rearranged

The Pythagoras Tables turn a deceptively simple geometry into something far more expressive. Two marble forms—identical in footprint but offset in height—meet, separate, overlap, and realign, allowing the composition to change with the room around it.

At 12 and 14 inches high, the pair maintains a deliberately low architectural profile. Placed together, their broad rectangular surfaces create a layered landscape of stone; pulled apart, each becomes its own substantial plane. The restraint of the construction leaves the marble nowhere to hide. Veining moves uninterrupted across the horizontal surfaces and down the supporting planes, making natural pattern as integral to the design as proportion itself.

And then there is the name. Pythagoras feels entirely appropriate for a piece built around relationships between planes, dimensions, and arrangement—but these tables are far less interested in behaving like a geometry lesson than in changing the architecture of a room.

This is marble allowed to be both structure and ornament.

The Nature of the Piece

Pythagoras relies on marble not simply as its surface material, but as its entire visual language. Broad expanses of pale stone are interrupted by irregular bands of plum, mauve, grey and subtle mineral green, creating movement that can shift dramatically from one piece to another.

The restrained construction makes those variations unusually visible. Rather than confining the stone to a tabletop, marble continues across the vertical supports, allowing veining, tonal changes and mineral markings to become part of the table's architecture. Polished surfaces catch light quietly while the substantial planar edges reinforce the material's physical weight.

As with all natural marble, variation in veining, color, pattern and mineral character is inherent. Those differences are not incidental to Pythagoras—they are precisely what prevent such rigorous geometry from ever feeling repetitive.

Standard freight service typically delivers your order to the curb, driveway, garage, or first dry area accessible to the carrier, depending on the carrier and delivery location. Standard freight delivery does not include placement inside your home, unpacking, assembly, or removal of packaging unless specifically stated.

Items shown as 'Delivered' by the carrier but are reported missing must be reported to Daniel House Club within 1 week of the delivery date as shown by the carrier.
