About the Artist | Erik Linton

Erik Linton of Linton Art creates hand-pulled woodcut prints that transform the growth rings of naturally fallen trees into compelling works of contemporary art. Working directly from the character of the wood, his practice celebrates the intricate patterns, fractures, and individual histories preserved within each cross-section.

Through this distinctive approach to printmaking, the natural passage of time becomes visible, creating artworks that unite organic form, traditional craftsmanship, and an enduring sense of place.

Presented as part of the L’Élément de Joie Designer-in-Residence collection.

The Design Story

A handmade Alaskan cypress tree-ring print that turns decades of natural growth into dense black-and-white linework.

The Élodie Woodcut Wall Art begins with a real cypress tree cross-section from Ketchikan, Alaska, gathered from wood that had already fallen rather than a tree cut for the work. Artist Erik Linton uses textured ink to create each impression by hand on 100 lb acid-free paper, preserving the growth rings and irregular perimeter as a record of place rather than reducing them to a decorative pattern.

At 18 by 24 inches, Élodie reads somewhere between landscape, specimen, and graphic abstraction. Dense black lines radiate from the center, fracture, reconnect, and finally dissolve into the asymmetrical edge of the tree, allowing decades of natural growth to become the composition itself. Each print is signed by the artist and ships unframed.

Material Character

The Nature of the Piece

The 100 lb acid-free paper keeps the field quiet and neutral, allowing the black ink impression to carry the visual weight. Fine tree rings, fissures, and irregular edges remain visible rather than being polished into a mechanically perfect graphic.

Because each work is handmade from a real cypress cross-section, slight variation in the transferred ink and edge character is part of the process. The print is signed by Erik Linton and shipped unframed in a sturdy tube.

Additional Information

No two homes come together in quite the same way—and neither do the pieces chosen for them. Our collection brings together furnishings and objects from a variety of makers and manufacturers, each with its own production schedules, shipping methods, and delivery options.

We consider those differences part of the process of sourcing pieces with character. Whether an item arrives by parcel within days, travels by freight, or is prepared especially for your order, our focus remains the same: selecting pieces worth bringing into your home and making the journey from their source to your space as thoughtful as possible.

A well-considered home isn't assembled all at once. It takes shape piece by piece, through objects chosen not simply to fill a space, but to make that space feel like home.
